Why Coding?
##No app can help me
Have you ever played the PS4 game 'Watch Dog'?
While I was working in the design industry, it was the only thing that connected me with programming. In the game, programmers were like hidden god who were able to do anything with the code, like hacking city system to control traffic lights, which I used to dream about, or even hacking security cameras to spy on the unreachable. It was very impressive at that moment, but I knew it is impossible to do such things in the real life.
After taking the position as art director, I confronted with a huge amount of data. Most of the data I received was very sketchy because it was written orally or by hand. It was the first reason that I was interested in searching for a 'certain computer app' to handle the data. When I was searching, I had my own standard, which were:
- The data in the app needs to reachable to all my co-workers
- Only someone who I give permission can edit the data
- The app needs to be able to handle immense amount of image files
However, I couldn't find the right app that fits all my standards, and I continued to work, thinking that the old way the company adheres was inefficient. Surprisingly, many companies including mine are still living in the '90s. They only know how information is passed on to an individual, not to a group of people. I was sure there must be a system somewhere with an algorithm that identifies and operates specific data, but there was no way to find it. When I was thinking of making my own app, the world faced with a situation that no one expected, pandemic.
## Everything has changed
As we all know, the world has changed since pandemic. From my point of view, the gap between those with and without programming knowledge has grown out of control since pandemic. Having already felt the need for programming due to a series of events before that, I felt a sense of crisis that the world would soon come, in which programming is not an option but a necessity.
## So why coding?
It always ended with thinking of an idea and couldn't move on to the next step. So when I found the software engineering course at Flatiron School, I was able to jump in without hesitation. I was confident that if my experience as a designer and programming skills combine, I can make what I envisioned come true.
